As we observe a renewed enthusiasm for direct citizen participation all around the globe, new tools and apps are designed to harness the energy and the contributions of the crowd. Local or global, open source or closed, these tools use social media and new protocols to bring participative democracy back to the table. But as we learned that even the most sophisticated technology will not bring viable solutions on its own, these apps give life to a "technological solutionnism" that could disappoint or be even counterproductive. How could political and civic movements use them as an opportunity to make their action more efficient, inspiring, engaging?  Will it open the door to the creation of new governments, more open and participative, or will it stay at the level of small-scaled experimentations?
